Early life and beginnings

Born on February 5, 1992, in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, Neymar grew up in a working-class family. His father, a former footballer, recognized his talent early and became his mentor. Young Neymar played street football and futsal, developing his technique, speed of thought, and ability to perform in tight spaces.

Youth Development

At age 7, Neymar joined Portuguesa Santista youth club in São Vicente. In 2003, at just 11 years old, he moved with his family to Santos and joined Santos FC's youth academy, following in the footsteps of Pelé. At 14, he had a successful trial with Real Madrid, but his father decided he should continue developing at Santos.

Professional Debut

On March 7, 2009, at just 17 years old, Neymar made his professional debut for Santos FC. One week later, he scored his first professional goal against Mogi Mirim. His talent was immediately evident as he quickly became one of the most exciting prospects in world football.

During his five years with Santos, Neymar scored 70 goals in 134 appearances. His greatest achievement came in 2011 when he led Santos to win the Copa Libertadores, the club’s first in 48 years. He won numerous individual awards, including South American Footballer of the Year in 2011 and 2012.
